An experienced Consultant in Respiratory Medicine is sought to deliver and lead outpatient and community-based respiratory services across Hull and North Lincolnshire. The post involves managing patients with COPD, asthma, ILD and bronchiectasis, supporting diagnostic and procedural services, and contributing to multidisciplinary and service improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct specialist outpatient clinics for patients with chronic and complex respiratory disease
- Provide clinical assessment, investigation, and personalised treatment planning
- Review and interpret spirometry, full lung function, and radiology results
- Provide advice and guidance to referring GPs and interface services
- Attend and contribute to respiratory MDT meetings
- Support outpatient safety, clinical documentation, and audit standards
- Engage in service improvement, education, and patient pathway optimisation
- Maintain infection prevention and safe clinic standards
Role Summary
Specialist-led respiratory care across community and outpatient settings with emphasis on diagnosis, evidence-based management, and service development.
Key Objectives/Goals
- Deliver respiratory clinics in line with BTS/NICE guidelines.
- Interpret diagnostics (spirometry, imaging) and perform minor procedures.
- Lead community respiratory pathways and MDTs.
- Support governance, audit and QI initiatives.
Reporting Line / Team Structure
Reports to Medical Director/Respiratory Service Lead; works within MDT.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Expert knowledge of respiratory medicine and BTS/NICE guidance
- Spirometry and imaging interpretation
- Procedural skills (e.g. pleural aspiration)
- Team leadership and MDT collaboration
- Strong communication, teaching, and service development
- Ability to coordinate complex cases and elevate clinical concerns
Experience
- 5+ years respiratory specialty experience
- Outpatient clinic and MDT participation
- Service design and QI involvement
- Teaching and governance exposure
Essential
- GMC registration with Respiratory Medicine CCT or within 6 months
- Competent in pleural procedures & diagnostics
- Experience managing COPD, asthma, ILD
- Minor surgery assistance and wound care competence
- Excellent communication, coordination and IT skills
- Leadership and audit participation
Desirable
- Sub-specialty interest (e.g. ILD, sleep, asthma)
- Postgraduate research or teaching experience
- Community respiratory service experience
- Experience in community/outpatient settings
- Clean driving licence (multi-site service delivery)

- Travel requirements: Multi-site role across North Lincolnshire — own transport required.
