Role Type: Account Management, Retention & Growth

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded Key Account Manager to take ownership of a portfolio of high-value accounts, with an existing annual spend of approximately Β£3–4 million. This is not a traditional account management role. You will be responsible for both retaining and growing your accounts, with an expectation to generate approximately 1.25% growth across the portfolio. You will become a key point of contact for your clients and will be expected to take full ownership of the relationship β€” making sure things happen, problems are resolved quickly and clients receive an excellent level of service.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing and developing a portfolio of high-value customer accounts.
  • Protecting and retaining existing business while identifying opportunities for growth.
  • Delivering approximately 1.25% growth across your portfolio.
  • Building strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for your clients and taking ownership of issues through to resolution.
  • Coordinating solutions across internal teams, suppliers and customers.
  • Managing day-to-day account administration where required.
  • Making sure actions, queries and problems are followed through and resolved.
  • Identifying opportunities to increase spend and develop existing accounts.
  • Keeping clients fully informed and ensuring they feel looked after at all times.
  • Taking a hands-on approach rather than simply passing problems to someone else.

The Person We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is energetic, commercially driven and hands-on. You may come from the waste, recycling, waste brokerage or another brokerage environment, but equally, you could have experience in another fast-paced, entrepreneurial business where you've had to juggle multiple priorities and make things happen. The ideal person will:

  • Be proactive and take ownership.
  • Have a strong commercial mindset.
  • Be comfortable working in a busy, fast-moving environment.
  • Be someone who doesn't make excuses and finds solutions.
  • Be willing to get involved in the detail, including administration when required.
  • Be highly organised and able to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Have excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Be resilient and comfortable dealing with challenges.
  • Enjoy having responsibility and being accountable for their results.
  • Have a genuine desire to grow accounts rather than simply maintain them.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity for someone who wants real ownership and responsibility within a commercially focused business. You'll have the opportunity to manage a significant portfolio, directly influence account growth and build strong relationships with key customers. If you're someone who thrives in a busy environment, enjoys solving problems and wants to be the person who gets things done, this could be a great fit. Ideal backgrounds include: Waste Management, Recycling, Waste Brokerage, Commercial Brokerage, Recruitment or other smaller, fast-paced businesses where being hands-on and adaptable is essential.
