We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented National Site Liaison Officer to oversee and coordinate waste management operations across multiple sites. This role involves ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, and optimizing site efficiency in waste handling and disposal. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of waste management processes, health and safety regulations, and excellent communication skills to liaise between site teams, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact between waste management sites, clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Facilitate smooth operations by ensuring all parties are aligned on waste management processes and compliance requirements.
- Conduct regular site visits nationwide to assess operations and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure all waste management activities comply with relevant legislation, including Environmental Agency and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental policies and industry best practices.
- Assist in preparing environmental reports and compliance documentation.
- Conduct site audits to monitor adherence to safety protocols and recommend improvements.
- Work closely with operational teams to optimize waste collection, segregation, and disposal methods.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and sustainable waste management solutions.
- Prepare reports on site performance, incident tracking, and key operational metrics.
- Monitor vendor and contractor performance, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with site managers, local authorities, waste disposal partners, and environmental agencies.
- Provide training and support to site teams on compliance and best practices.
- Address and resolve any operational or compliance issues efficiently.
Requirements:
- Experience in waste management, environmental services, or a similar regulatory-focused role.
- Strong knowledge of UK waste management legislation, environmental compliance, and health & safety regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple sites and travel nationally as required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and waste management software/tools.
Desirable:
- NEBOSH or IOSH Health & Safety certification.
- CIWM (Chartered Institution of Wastes Management) membership.
- Previous experience working with local councils, regulatory agencies, or large waste management firms.
