We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to support the finance team in delivering accurate, timely, and efficient financial processes. This role will be hands-on, supporting day-to-day accounting activities, reporting, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with processing purchase invoices, sales invoices, and expense claims accurately and promptly.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Support the preparation of management accounts and other financial reports as required.
  • Process credit notes, refunds, and supplier payments, ensuring proper approvals and documentation.
  • Assist with stock and inventory accounting, including reporting variances where required.
  • Maintain accurate accounts payable and receivable records.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including journals, accruals, and prepayments.
  • Liaise with internal teams (store managers, operations, and procurement) to resolve financial queries.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with internal controls, policies, and statutory requirements.
  • Provide administrative support to the finance team, including filing, data entry, and system maintenance.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • AAT qualified or studying towards a finance/accounting qualification.
  • Strong numeracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a retail or multi-site environment.
  • Familiarity with ERP or accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Xero, SAP).
  • Basic knowledge of VAT, payroll, and statutory reporting.
  • Interest in career progression within finance and accounting.
