Job Description

With its leading-edge technology, this highly innovative business now requires an experienced Director of Product Development, who will be responsible for leading multidisciplinary engineering and product teams across mechanical, electronic, firmware, and software domains.

The Role:Reporting to the Senior VP, as the Director of Product Development, in this role you will drive innovation, product lifecycle excellence, and strategic alignment across the business area. Candidates will ideally have a strong background in electro-mechanical and/or embedded software based systems.

In addition, you will also be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • defining and executing long-term technology and product roadmaps aligned with business goals and market trends
  • operating as a key part of the senior leadership team, contributing to strategic decision making and direction of the business
  • overseeing full product lifecycle from concept to commercialisation and through to retirement across hardware, firmware and software
  • driving new product development (NPD) and sustaining engineering initiatives
  • identifying relevant emerging technologies and trends to integrate into the product development pipeline
  • ensuring compliance with industry standards, cybersecurity, and data privacy regulations
  • leading and inspiring cross-functional global teams, fostering a culture of innovation, agility, and accountability
  • managing resource planning, budgeting, and performance metrics (KPIs)
  • partnering with Operations, Quality, and Regulatory teams to deliver customer-centric solutions
  • promoting secure-by-design practices, modular architecture, and scalable system designs

As the Director of Product Development, you will be required to operate at a strategic level to devise, implement and influence at all levels throughout the business.

The Candidate:Ideally of graduate standard, or higher, from within an engineering, computer science or related discipline, candidates for the Director of Product Development role will also be required to demonstrate that they have:

  • previous work experience in a same or similar leadership position, managing a P&L and driving top and bottom line growth
  • experience in product development with a proven track record in electro-mechanical and embedded systems development
  • proven stakeholder management abilities with strategic thinking skills
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to be flexible in a challenging environment
  • the capability to be a hands-on type individual, who demonstrates initiative and has a positive and professional, outlook
  • the ability to work effectively both within a team but also under their own initiative, demonstrating that they are an organised and capable individual, who is used to multi-tasking and can prioritise their workload in order to meet exacting deadlines
  • the ability to be analytical and results driven with a strong commitment to success and excellence
  • the capacity to be a strong, capable leader, with the presence to motivate and influence across all levels of the business
