An established enterprise SaaS business is building out the next phase of its data and platform capability and is looking for a Technical Product Owner to sit at the heart of delivery. This is a hands‑on product role working closely with engineering teams to shape, prioritise, and deliver data‑heavy, API‑driven platforms that underpin multiple SaaS products. You won’t be firefighting legacy or acting as a go‑between — this role exists to build well‑designed, scalable systems properly. The organisation operates at genuine enterprise scale but with a modern product mindset: strong engineering standards, clear ownership, and long‑term thinking.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Product Ownership & Delivery
- Owning and managing the delivery backlog for data platforms and internal/external product services
- Writing clear, technically detailed user stories with strong acceptance criteria and non‑functional requirements
- Prioritising work based on value, platform health, dependencies, and delivery risk
- Working day‑to‑day with engineers to ensure stories are well‑shaped, estimated, and ready to ship
- Technical Product Focus
- Acting as the product counterpart to data engineers, platform engineers, and analytics teams
- Shaping requirements around:
- Data ingestion and pipelines
- APIs and data services
- Data models and schemas
- Reporting, analytics, and downstream product use‑cases
- Ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and data quality are baked in — not bolted on later
- Partnering closely with senior product leadership to turn roadmap goals into executable delivery plans
- Working across multiple internal teams to clarify requirements and manage expectations
- Communicating trade‑offs clearly and pragmatically — no fluff, no surprises
- Using delivery metrics and platform feedback to refine priorities
- Identifying opportunities to reduce technical debt and improve developer experience
- Actively contributing to agile ceremonies and ways‑of‑working improvements
What They’re Looking For
- Experience
- 3–6 years’ experience as a Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, or similar
- Proven delivery experience in SaaS, platform, or data‑heavy environments
- Comfortable working in complex, multi‑stakeholder organisations
- Technical Understanding
- Strong grasp of modern data and platform concepts (without needing to code):
- Cloud platforms (AWS or similar)
- Data pipelines and orchestration
- APIs and event‑driven architectures
- Data modelling and analytics use‑cases
- Experience working closely with engineers on technical trade‑offs
- Strong Scrum or Kanban experience
- Excellent backlog management and refinement skills
- Organised, detail‑oriented, and delivery‑focused
Why This Role Is Interesting
- Genuine product ownership, not ticket admin
- Enterprise scale without enterprise dysfunction
- Data and platform work that directly impacts real products and customers
- Hybrid working in central Manchester (2 days onsite)
- Clear runway for growth as the platform estate expands
