The General Dental Council (GDC) is the UK-wide statutory regulator of the dental team, working across all four nations to protect the public and maintain confidence in the professions it regulates.

More than 134,000 dental professionals are registered with the GDC, including dentists and a wide range of dental care professionals.

At a time when access to dental services, patient safety and oral health inequalities are under increasing scrutiny, the organisation is pursuing an ambitious strategy to become a trusted and effective regulator, supporting dental professionals to provide safe and effective care while strengthening public confidence and professional standards.

The GDC is now seeking an Independent Member of its Audit and Risk Committee (ARC).

As one of the Council’s key governance committees, the ARC plays a central role in overseeing the integrity of financial reporting, the effectiveness of governance, risk management and internal control frameworks, and the quality of internal and external audit arrangements.

Joining lay and registrant members of the Council, the successful candidate will contribute independent expertise and judgement, supporting effective oversight while helping to ensure the organisation remains financially robust, operationally efficient and well positioned to deliver its statutory responsibilities.

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with recent and relevant senior-level financial management experience.

They will bring up-to-date technical accounting knowledge, together with a strong understanding of public sector financial management, accounting and reporting.

Experience of risk management, assurance and internal control systems will be essential, alongside the ability to analyse complex information, exercise independent judgement and provide constructive challenge.

Open-minded, strategic and collaborative in approach, they will demonstrate a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, high standards of governance and a clear understanding of the principles of public life.

Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to the General Dental Council on this appointment.
