The Royal High School is one of the oldest schools in Scotland. It is a non‑denominational, 6‑year comprehensive school with students drawn from four local primary schools: Blackhall, Clermiston, Cramond and Davidson’s Mains. The school offers modern facilities, a strong extra‑curricular programme and a supportive community environment.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver modern studies lessons to students in Years 7–11.
  • Plan, deliver and assess the modern studies curriculum.
  • Support the integration of pupils, including those needing additional support.
  • Contribute to the development of the department’s curriculum and assessment standards.
  • Engage with parents, local businesses and community groups to enhance learning opportunities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Teaching qualification and registration as required for employment in Scotland.
  • Required to join the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.
  • Applicants who have spent 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years must provide an overseas criminal record check.
  • Unconditional offer and commencement in the post will be subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks.
