Overview

The Digital Experience team works to continuously improve the experience of users, stakeholders and colleagues across digital platforms and services at the University of Sheffield. We are a team of specialists with a focus on insight-led strategy, innovative solutions and user-centric design. We work with colleagues to design, deliver and optimise platforms and initiatives that support the University of Sheffield's strategic priorities while putting our users first. Our remit within Digital Experience covers user research, digital solution design, digital brand development, marketing technology oversight, analytics and reporting, and we act as a key lead and consultant for colleagues across Communications and External Relations when it comes to designing the best possible digital experience.

This role requires a digital expert with an understanding of customer journeys, digital platforms, analytics and innovative technology. The post is part of a wider team which includes a range of high performing digital content, digital systems and business development colleagues - and also involves strong collaboration with colleagues across our wider service.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of a Digital Experience Roadmap that aligns with the University's overarching strategic plan.
  • Continuously improve the overall experience of users, stakeholders and colleagues by developing, managing and contributing to key digital products, channels and services.
  • Support the delivery of key digital projects and initiatives in support of University of Sheffield strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in Marketing to ensure all digital experience projects are correctly applying the University of Sheffield brand.
  • Contribute to the development of a new digital design system for digital projects and initiatives.
  • Support efforts to pilot the use of new technologies and deliver innovative solutions, including tools like Google Gemini and NotebookLM.
  • Work with the Digital Experience Manager to manage and maintain the configuration of key digital tools like GA4, Google Tag Manager and Civic.
  • Create analytics and insights reports and dashboards in GA4 and Google Data Studio and work with colleagues to help them understand the performance of our platforms, tools and services.
  • Create training materials to support the development of digital skills and awareness/understanding of new technologies across the service.
  • Any other duties as required, including attendance at events and other critical business activities throughout the year, including evenings and weekends.

Essential criteria

  • Good honours degree in Communications/Marketing/Business or a related subject or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of digital experience techniques and platforms, including SEO, SEM, social media marketing, email marketing, content marketing, and analytics.
  • Experience in digital tools and systems, preferably in the higher education sector or a related field.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and generate insights for continuous improvement.
  • Experience using tools like GA4, Clarity, GTM, Google Data Studio to design and deliver clear and coherent analytics and insights reports and dashboards.
  • Experience using AI platforms like Gemini and NotebookLM in creative, innovative and responsible ways.
  • Creative thinking and the ability to generate innovative ideas for engaging digital experiences for prospective students, current students, staff and stakeholders.
  • Enthusiasm for staying updated with the latest industry trends, techniques, and developments.

  • Salary: £32,080 - £36,636 per annum with potential to progress to £39,906 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution.
