Overview

We seek an experienced and motivated individual to serve as Building Standards Senior Structural Engineer and support our programme to reshape services in response to demand. Edinburgh’s Building Standards Team processes around 5,000 building warrants annually. The role supports a seamless development consent process, ensuring buildings are designed and constructed to meet safety standards and promote sustainable development.

Responsibilities

  • Verify structural aspects of building warrant applications for compliance with Scottish building regulations and mandatory standards.
  • Carry out inspections of building works and dangerous/defective buildings, offering structural advice to customers and assisting Building Standards Surveyors.
  • Manage a diverse caseload, working as part of a team or independently.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and maintain high standards of customer care.

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in structural engineering and building standards.
  • Strong customer‑service orientation, excellent communication skills and clear understanding of quality assurance.
  • Appetite for project delivery and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions & Benefits

Hybrid working arrangement with modern open‑plan offices in Edinburgh City Centre, 5 minutes’ walk from Waverley Station. Two references required if successful.
