Overview: Pupil Support Officer – fixed term until 26/07/2027 at Bruntsfield Primary School. Salary: £30,188‑£34,452 (pro‑rata for part‑time and sessional). Hours: 32 per week, 39 weeks sessional.

Responsibilities: The role will be crucial in helping to address the poverty‑related attainment gap. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting children and young people who are disengaged from learning or experiencing difficulties.
  • Working with individuals or groups to improve literacy, numeracy and social skills.
  • Building trusting relationships with children and their families, which may involve support within family homes.
  • Recording attendance and progress, and tracking attendance and attainment.
  • Providing targeted interventions and support to raise attainment.

Qualifications and Experience: Preferred experience includes:

  • Experience working with children and young people with social and emotional needs, especially those supported by children and young people with support needs (PSAs).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead groups and track impact.
  • Experience raising attainment through focused interventions.
  • Experience with recording and tracking attendance and attainment.

Applicants should be creative, well‑organised, and effective communicators with a passion for supporting children and young people.

Training and Development: Training opportunities will be provided once the successful candidate is in post.

Legal and Safeguarding: This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An Overseas Criminal Record Check may be required if the individual has spent a continuous period of three months or more outside the UK in the last five years. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory outcome of these checks.
