Applications are invited from outstanding researchers to be appointed to an academic Lectureship in the chemistry of metal organic frameworks and related porous materials.
We welcome applications from candidates whose research interests lie in the characterisation and applications of functional materials for substrate storage, separation and catalysis.
The post-holder will be required to work collaboratively with the existing research group led by Professor Martin Schröder to pursue original research and deliver internationally leading and rigorous outputs, secure external funding, and to work with national facilities.
The post will suit candidates who wish to fully develop their independent academic career in the future.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of high-quality research outputs and be able to show commitment to the delivery of teaching and research excellence.
The successful candidate will be required to carry out teaching at undergraduate and graduate level, together with administrative and other reasonable duties as required, and manage interdisciplinary research collaborations, particularly with national facilities.
Candidates must hold a doctorate in chemistry or appropriate related subject and be motivated with excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
The post will be based in the Chemistry Building, The University of Manchester, Oxford Road, Manchester, M13 9PL, UK.
You will be responsible for
- Establish, develop, maintain, and manage a high quality collaborative programme of scholarly research with a focus on functional metal-organic framework and related materials.
- Disseminate your research in high quality publications and conference presentations.
- Identify and secure external research grant funding.
- Attract and supervise Ph D and PDRA researchers.
- Deliver outstanding teaching and learning to our undergraduate and postgraduate students, though lectures, seminars, workshops, small group teaching, and laboratory classes, by supervision of individual and group research projects, web-based learning, and the development of transferable skills.

- A relevant Ph D (or equivalent) in inorganic or materials chemistry or relevant discipline.
- A demonstrable research track-record of high quality research.
- A strong journal publication record.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to teach enthusiastically across inorganic and materials chemistry and chemistry more broadly.
Desirable Criteria
- Postdoctoral or industrial experience.
- Experience of teaching chemistry.
- A track record of working with national facilities
- Experience of supervising Ph D students.
- Experience of managing interdisciplinary research collaborations.
