The 11–18 (Secondary) QTS Programme – Mathematics at Bromley Schools’ Collegiate prepares graduates to teach Mathematics in secondary schools. The programme combines structured training with two contrasting school placements, enabling trainees to develop strong subject knowledge, effective teaching strategies, and confidence in the classroom.
You will be supported to plan and deliver engaging mathematics lessons, develop pupils’ problem-solving and reasoning skills, and help students build confidence and fluency across the mathematics curriculum.
Course structureThe programme is delivered full time from September to July and includes two placements in contrasting secondary schools. The first placement runs from September to December, followed by a second placement from January to July. Throughout the programme, trainees receive ongoing mentor support and take part in professional training sessions.
Bursaries and scholarships (2026–2027)A government bursary of £29,000 is available for Mathematics. Applicants may be eligible for a bursary if they hold a 1st, 2:1, 2:2, Master’s or PhD. DfE scholarships of £31,000 are also available for Mathematics. Scholarships are awarded instead of a bursary and are usually offered to applicants with a 1st, 2:1, Master’s or PhD, although in exceptional circumstances a 2:2 with significant relevant experience may be considered.
Scholarships come with additional benefits, including tax-free funding, professional body membership, subject-specialist events and webinars, specialist mentoring and coaching, access to classroom resources, and ongoing professional development during training and as an alumnus. Scholarships must be applied for separately through the relevant scholarship body, with further details available via Get Into Teaching.
Fees (2026–2027)QTS only: £8,100
QTS with PGCE: £9,535
Applicants must hold a degree with a minimum classification of 2:2 (or equivalent). GCSE English and Mathematics at grade C / 4 or above are also required. Candidates should have strong subject knowledge for teaching Mathematics at secondary level. This is normally demonstrated by having at least 50% of an undergraduate degree in Mathematics or a closely related subject, or a good A-level pass (grade B or above) in Mathematics, alongside evidence of continued subject knowledge development.
Free GCSE equivalency tests may be available for candidates who do not hold GCSE English and/or Maths, after an offer has been made and accepted. No prior school or classroom experience is required before applying.
Other requirementsAll successful applicants will be subject to enhanced criminal record checks, health screening, and reference checks once an offer has been accepted.
