Hours: 36 per week, 4X4 Day shift 06.00 - 17.02 – This post requires a driving licence.
The post holder will be required to hold or attain a qualification at SVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an environmental-related subject.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of a designated group of Waste and Cleansing staff, delivering services such as street cleaning, waste and recycling collection, litter collection from open spaces, street washing, graffiti removal and environmental inspections.
- Act as the first point of contact with the public, provide advice, respond to problems and coordinate with CEC colleagues and other parties to maintain high standards of customer care.
- Support or initiate environmental enforcement action as directed by line management.
- Plan, prioritise and allocate staff and resources to ensure adequate cover and continuity of service.
- Allocate and monitor work performance using route planning/optimisation software and mobile technology to deliver services on a 'right first time' approach, minimising complaints and maximising customer satisfaction.
- Order and maintain adequate stocks of uniform and PPE, ensuring staff are issued with prescribed protective clothing and that it is used properly.
- Confirm staff/crew members' compliance with relevant regulations at the start and end of each shift and confirm drivers' fitness and ability to drive safely.
- Brief staff on performance, changes to working practices, procedures and service developments and provide access to Council information such as mandatory HR policies.
- Issue relevant paperwork/instruction to crews at the commencement of shift and monitor progress throughout the day, using performance information to manage resources and address exceptions.
Qualifications
- SVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in an environmental-related subject.
- Driving licence and proven ability to drive safely.
- Experience managing waste and cleansing operations and using route optimisation tools.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
