Hours: 10 per week, 52 weeks. Salary £26,205 – £26,525 (pro rata for part time). Monday – Friday 5 pm – 7 pm.

As a cleaner with the City of Edinburgh Council, you will be a key member of the Facilities Management team. You will deliver a vital cleaning service across our estate to ensure properties are safe and clean places to work or learn. Major Tasks / Job Activities

  • Empty litter and recycling bins.
  • Clean all surfaces, internal glass, floors, furniture, fixtures and fittings within a group of buildings.
  • Clean all sanitary areas, toilets, showers and replenish washroom consumables.
  • Perform emergency and re‑active cleaning as required (e.g., removal of graffiti, body fluid spillage, accidental spillage).
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all equipment used to carry out duties.
  • Support cleaning tasks across other buildings when required.
  • Deliver work to the cleaning specification and cooperate with performance measurement to meet agreed standards.

As part of your role, you will act as a key holder, operating security alarm systems, closing windows and doors, switching off lights, and ensuring premises are left safe and secure when closed. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. If you have spent a continuous period of 3 months or more abroad in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required.
