The GLA’s Skills and Employment Unit is looking for two Senior Communications Officers to develop and deliver a communications strategy that promotes the skills and employment programmes delivered by the Mayor and key partners, and increases Londoners’ awareness of skills provision and participation in adult learning.

One post will focus on improving awareness and engagement with maths and numeracy learning opportunities. This position is available on a fixed term basis until 31 July 2025. The other post is available on a permanent basis and will support the Unit’s external communications work as a whole.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Unit's external communications, including announcements, set‑piece moments, marketing, recovery communications, stakeholder and provider communications, flagship events and initiatives, reactive communications, and the Jobs and Skills pages of the GLA’s website.
  • Engage with social media and improve external communications skills and understanding across the Unit.
  • Report to the Principal Communications Officer and work closely with the GLA’s press, marketing, digital and external relations teams, the Mayor’s Office and Deputy Mayors’ Offices, and other GLA and partner teams to deliver communications objectives.

Qualifications

  • Experience of delivering external communications activity alongside drive, initiative and proven ability to form strong and dynamic relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Understanding of London’s skills and employment landscape is preferred.
