Position: Principal Policy & Project Officer

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Policy and Projects

Salary: £63,112 per annum

Location: City Hall, London E16 1ZE

Our standard policy is three days in the office, but this role involves additional on-site presence and time spent out and about, depending on business needs.

About the Role

As part of the GLA, you’ll lead high-impact, cross-cutting projects, provide sharp policy analysis, and play a crucial role in delivering the organisation’s corporate strategy. Acting as a trusted advisor, you’ll brief the Mayor and senior leaders, ensuring policies not only align with key priorities but also drive meaningful change across the capital. About you

We would love to hear from you if you have the skills, capability, knowledge and track record in:

  • Awareness of London’s political, policy, and governance landscape, with experience navigating and influencing within a political environment.
  • Ability to quickly grasp new policy areas, adapt to changing priorities, and communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to a wide range of audiences, including Londoners and key stakeholders.
  • Experience in strategic analysis and project management, with the ability to lead, deliver, monitor, and report on major cross-cutting projects and programmes, including planning, budgeting, and commissioning.
  • Analytical and policy skills, demonstrated through a relevant degree, professional qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Policy expertise in areas such as government fiscal events, housing, environment, transport, or devolution is a plus but not essential.
