Under the banner of ‘Skills for Londoners’, the skills agenda is at the heart of the Mayor of London’s vision for recovery in London, ensuring both Londoners and London’s businesses have the skills they need to succeed in a fair, inclusive society and thriving economy.

The Skills & Employment Unit at the GLA is responsible for this vision and is one of the largest and most dynamic units. We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager to oversee one of three delivery teams within the Unit, with a responsibility for a diverse portfolio of programmes which includes the Mayor’s flagship Academies Programme, FE Capital Funding, Skills Bootcamps and No Wrong Door initiative.

The role will include liaising with the Mayor’s Office, key stakeholders and delivery partners across the portfolio. We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting Londoners and London’s businesses to succeed, with strong programme management skills and a proven ability to motivate and lead high performing teams. In addition, the postholder will be responsible for a team of 25-30 officers.

This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL). GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority ethnic candidates and disabled candidates who are currently underrepresented in our workforce.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.
