This is an exciting opportunity to join the small but ambitious team supporting London’s Victims’ Commissioner, Claire Waxman OBE. Working alongside the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC), we aim to ensure that victims’ voices are heard, and that their experiences inform and shape legislation, practices, policies, services, and provision that directly impact victims.

The Policy Support and Engagement Officer will report to the London’s Victims’ Commissioner’s Policy Advisor, and will work closely with the Commissioner herself, MOPAC’s Victims’ and Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Teams, Justice Agencies including the Metropolitan Police and CPS, and the voluntary sector.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the Victims’ Commissioner for London through undertaking research, identifying emerging areas, and monitoring the progress of key pieces of work and their recommendations.
  • Assist the Victims’ Commissioner’s Policy Advisors, contributing to the development of policy positions, lobbying, and new pieces of work. These will include but are not limited to Violence Against Women and Girls, Hate Crime, Modern Slavery, support for victims, and legislation.
  • Lead the communication and engagement with partner organisations and victims of crime.

This role is central to the work of London’s Victim’s Commissioner and provides an opportunity to shape the policy agenda for victims in London.

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London and is led by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. MOPAC undertakes a broad range of statutory duties and works closely with the Mayor of London, Deputy Mayor and Metropolitan Police Service to deliver the priorities that will create safer London communities.

Political Restriction:

Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (as amended by the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011) all members of staff of MOPAC will be politically restricted without the right to apply for an exemption.

Security Vetting Clearance:

Successful candidates will be expected to undergo the necessary security vetting which may take around 8 weeks to be completed. Applicants must also have resided in the UK continuously for at least the last three years.

Reward and Benefits:

In addition to a good salary package, this role offers 32.5 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, civil service pension scheme and flexible working arrangements.

We have moved to a hybrid working model with office hubs at Union Street (near London Bridge) and Newlands Park (postcode SE26). Staff will work an average of 1‑2 days a week from an Office Hub, but this may differ depending on the role requirements.
