About the Role

Salary: £75,000 to £85,000

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Public Engagement and Communications will be responsible for all external communications, develop communications strategies as well as metrics to engage the public with Comic Relief's brand and impact whilst helping to set the tone and direction of the internal communications.

You will be responsible for public relations and external affairs, working closely with the CEO, senior leadership team and Trustees to protect and enhance the reputation of Comic Relief in line with our strategy, objectives and values.

Responsibilities

  • Support the PR team to create far reaching media strategies with a focus on driving awareness of what we fund, as well as driving engagement with our work
  • Lead on all reputational issues management
  • Devise and implement an effective engagement plan
  • Hold accountability for the communications on our owned external channels and provide direction for others in the organisation
  • Lead the development and delivery of communications strategies that raise awareness and understanding of Comic Relief's impact and impact areas
  • Develop an internal communication function
  • Be responsible for maintaining our brand, spanning reputation, brand guidelines and standards.

About You

You have a strong awareness of the issues related to our vision of a just world free from poverty, including through an equality, diversity, inclusion and justice lens. We would love to hear from you if you have experience of working with fundraising teams and campaigns as well as knowledge of brand management, together with the following skills, attributes and capabilities:

  • Excellent PR and communications skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence at a high-level
  • Experience managing a PR team
  • Effective relevant journalist relationships across national and sector media, and proven experience of handling high profile reputational issues
  • Knowledge of digital media, the effective tactics for digital communications spanning web and social media
  • Capability to lead multi‐channel communications campaigns, with a sense of effective storytelling
  • Capability to work collaboratively and lead cross‐organisational projects
  • Expertise in measuring the effectiveness of channels and communications
