Overview of role

Are you passionate about making a difference and want to play an important role in the transformation of the GLA People Function by supporting the GLA through change? If the answer is yes and you are an experienced HR professional who enjoys bringing people together and delivering a high-quality service, we would love to hear from you. You will also make a full contribution to work across the wider GLA family in your work individually, and collectively to deliver leading edge People practice.

You will:

  • Help to deliver the new People Strategy, which will support the organisation to deliver its strategic objectives.
  • Support the GLA to deliver its programme of transformation, whilst settling into new hybrid ways of working at the new City Hall in the Royal Docks.
  • Deliver a high level of HR professionalism that serves the needs of the Mayor for London, the London Assembly and the GLA.
  • Help us to build a diverse and inclusive workforce, and one that is representative of the population it serves.

Key Accountabilities

  • Working in partnership with directorate leaders and senior managers to achieve strategic objectives through the provision of high-quality strategic HR advice, direction, insight and support.
  • Support the Senior HRBP by working closely with directorate managers and gain sufficient knowledge of the affairs of the relevant areas of the directorate to be able to answer people focused questions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with directors and senior managers acting as a credible strategic partner within the business area.
  • Influence and challenge strategic decisions ensuring stakeholders are fully aware of the impact decisions made may have on our GLA people, including the provision of accurate management information to enable evidence-based decision making.
  • Offer innovative people-based solutions to strategic issues based on specialist expertise and knowledge of the business area.
  • Provide specialist advice ensuring the consistent and pragmatic application of statutory legislation, relevant policies and procedures, and codes of practice.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • CIPD qualified or equivalent experience (essential).
  • Experience of working in the people management function of a large and complex organisation (essential).
  • Ability to provide credible professional advice, challenge and innovative solutions to senior stakeholders (essential).
  • Experience of implementing improvements to people systems and processes (essential).
  • Ability to present technical / complex people information (orally and in writing) clearly and concisely to non-technical senior stakeholders (essential).
