Providing the expertise that helps shape our communications policy, you will be a strong communicator with a significant track record of success in delivering media and public relations services in a high-profile organisation, a political or highly complex environment.

You will need to have excellent writing and people skills, proven experience dealing with a wide range of different media and advising senior figures in a fast-paced, demanding press office environment. You must have the ability to think on your feet, respond quickly to media enquiries from across the globe, generate great coverage through creative ideas and demonstrate sound knowledge of PR techniques, including use of digital and social media.

This role involves creating high quality media and communications, ensuring deadlines are met and an effective dialogue with media. It’s an active role that will involve accompanying the Mayor to events, writing and editing articles, briefings and statements on his behalf, as well as being part of a 24-hour, seven day a week on-call rota.

This role will be based at City Hall, in the Royal Docks (Kamal Chunchie Way, London, E16 1ZE). At present GLA staff are working largely from home, with office space available. Over the coming weeks and months, we will be moving to hybrid working as part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

This job is ‘politically restricted’ under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989. London's diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London's diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.
