Our client is seeking a User Researcher (Consultant level) to help shape user-centred digital services that make a meaningful impact across public sector, healthcare, and purpose-driven organisations. This role is ideal for a curious, analytical researcher who enjoys working in multidisciplinary delivery teams and using evidence to inform design and delivery decisions. You will play a key role in ensuring that user needs and behaviours are clearly understood and embedded into services that affect people’s everyday lives. You will also benefit from being part of a supportive user research community while working across varied and impactful client engagements.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver user research that supports the development of user-centred services.
- Select and apply appropriate research methods based on project phase and objectives.
- Produce ethics, governance, and research materials in line with required standards.
- Recruit and manage diverse participant groups in line with GDPR and MRS guidelines.
- Analyse qualitative and quantitative data to identify themes, user needs, personas, and design insights.
- Produce clear, concise research outputs tailored to different audiences, including delivery teams and senior stakeholders.
- Work closely with designers, developers, and other user-centred design specialists to inform decision-making.
- Ensure research activity complies with agreed quality, environmental, and information security standards while working on client engagements.
Requirements
- Proven experience delivering user research as part of a digital or service delivery team.
- Experience working across a range of user research methods and adapting approaches as projects evolve.
- Demonstrated experience working to GDS and UK Government Service Standard guidelines.
- Experience working within agile delivery environments.
- Strong analytical and synthesis skills, with the ability to translate research findings into actionable insight.
- Ability to communicate research outcomes clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Consulting & Core Skills
- Ability to plan and manage your own workload to meet project objectives.
- Confidence to respectfully challenge decisions or proposed solutions when supported by evidence.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience working effectively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
Security Requirements
Applicants must either hold active UK Security Clearance (SC) or meet eligibility criteria. Eligibility requires UK citizenship, continuous UK residence for the past five years, and no single absence exceeding 28 consecutive days. Candidates who regularly take on leadership responsibilities, support junior colleagues, and bring experience across a wide range of projects may be better suited to progression into a Senior User Researcher role over time.
