Overview

Our client is a well-established civil engineering contractor delivering complex infrastructure and environmental projects across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Site Agent to join their Northern Region team, initially supporting a major Sea Defence Improvement Scheme. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled civil engineering professional to take ownership of site operations, contract management, programme delivery, and stakeholder engagement on high-profile infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. The role would suit a proactive leader with strong technical expertise, proven site management experience, and a track record of successfully delivering civil engineering and flood defence schemes.

Responsibilities

  • Site Management & Project Delivery
    • Manage site teams, operatives, and subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.
    • Prepare and implement method statements, risk assessments, and project management plans.
    • Monitor project performance against programme, budget, and quality objectives.
    • Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules and programmes of work.
    • Coordinate construction activities to ensure timely completion of works.
    • Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Commercial & Contract Management
    • Review tender allowances and monitor project costs against approved budgets.
    • Administer contracts and manage contractual change processes.
    • Support the commercial performance of projects and contribute to profitable delivery.
    • Assess, engage, and manage subcontractors throughout project lifecycles.
    • Maintain accurate project records and reporting documentation.
  • Design & Stakeholder Coordination
    • Coordinate design activities and ensure effective communication between project stakeholders.
    • Liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and project teams.
    • Foster strong working relationships and maintain a positive reputation with clients.
    • Engage with local communities and stakeholder groups where required.
    • Support collaborative working across multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Certifications

  • HNC, HND, or Degree (BEng or equivalent) in Civil Engineering.
  • Valid CSCS Card.
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Proven experience in a Site Agent or similar site management role within civil engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC4 contracts and contract administration.
  • Experience managing civil engineering infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrable experience supervising or managing flood defence, coastal defence, water, environmental, or similar infrastructure schemes.
  • Strong understanding of construction methodologies and project delivery processes.
  • Excellent project planning and programme management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience using project planning software such as Asta Powerproject or Microsoft Project.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and implement company procedures effectively.
  • Commercial awareness and budget management experience.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) certification.
  • First Aid at Work qualification.
  • SEATS (Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme).
  • EUSR certification.
