Overview
Our client, a well-regarded further and higher education provider, is seeking a Counselling Supervisor (Psychodynamic) to support students enrolled on a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling. This part‑time, fixed‑term role is based within a Higher Education setting and is suited to an experienced, accredited psychodynamic practitioner with a strong commitment to ethical practice, supervision, and student development.
The role focuses on supporting trainee counsellors to apply theory to practice while maintaining clear professional boundaries in line with recognised ethical frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Provide supervision support to students studying on a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling.
- Work in accordance with BACP and/or UKCP ethical frameworks at all times.
- Manage and facilitate a designated student supervision group as part of a wider supervisory team.
- Support students to integrate psychodynamic theory into their client work.
- Model psychodynamic practice consistently and professionally.
- Produce objective, timely written assessments and reports.
- Attend scheduled meetings and peer supervision sessions as required.
- Maintain clear professional boundaries and demonstrate appropriate professional behaviours with both staff and students.
- Adhere to the defined scope of the supervisory role, noting that clinical responsibility remains with placement agencies.
Requirements
- Professionally qualified psychodynamic counsellor or psychotherapist.
- Current accreditation with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or equivalent professional body.
- Minimum of three years’ post‑qualification experience.
- Current practice as a psychodynamic counsellor or psychotherapist.
- Experience in psychoeducation and professional report writing.
- Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development within a therapeutic context.
- Strong understanding of ethical supervision boundaries within training environments.
