Our client is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join a growing digital consultancy delivering scalable, user-centred digital solutions across public and private sector environments. This role is ideal for an experienced data engineering professional who thrives in multidisciplinary teams and enjoys designing and implementing modern, cloud-based data platforms. The successful candidate will play a key role in building secure, scalable, and high-performing data solutions that enable organisations to make evidence-based decisions and maximise the value of their data. The role combines hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership, stakeholder engagement, mentoring responsibilities, and contribution to wider engineering best practices.
Location: Manchester, United Kingdom
Working Pattern: Hybrid and flexible working available. Travel to client or office locations may occasionally be required.
Responsibilities:
- Acting as a subject matter expert within multidisciplinary delivery teams
- Designing, building, and implementing scalable data engineering solutions
- Supporting the development of modern data architectures including Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, Data Meshes, and event-driven systems
- Developing and optimising data pipelines and data flows between operational and analytics systems
- Building solutions that support business intelligence, reporting, and insight generation
- Re-engineering and optimising existing code and data processes for performance and scalability
- Working with cloud-native technologies and distributed computing systems
- Producing dashboards, insights, and reporting solutions
- Collaborating with architects, engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to deliver user-centred outcomes
- Contributing to recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and capability development initiatives
- Promoting engineering capability through workshops, blogs, events, or technical community engagement
Requirements:
- Strong expertise in Python
- Proven experience with Snowflake, dbt, AWS, and Terraform
- Strong understanding of cloud architectures and distributed systems
- Experience designing and implementing Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, and Data Mesh architectures
- Experience working with SQL, NoSQL, and Graph databases
- Experience processing and managing large datasets
- Strong understanding of data modelling and normalisation concepts
- Experience delivering infrastructure across modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, Elastic, Splunk, or similar
- Strong experience with log processing and observability tooling
- Experience creating dashboards and insight delivery solutions
- Strong knowledge of regular expressions, JSON parsing, and data transformation techniques
- Awareness of core security best practices including OAuth, MFA, and TLS
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience working within multidisciplinary or agile delivery teams
- Experience with R, Bash, Java, .NET, or PowerShell
- Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers
- Consultancy or client-facing experience
- Experience contributing to technical communities or knowledge sharing initiatives
