Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Python Developer to join their digital consultancy practice. This role sits within multi‑disciplinary delivery teams responsible for building, supporting, and maintaining user‑centred digital solutions that deliver real value and work for diverse audiences. As a senior technical consultant, the successful candidate will provide deep expertise in software engineering, contribute to technical leadership within delivery teams, and support the development of colleagues. This role combines hands‑on development with client engagement, solution design, and knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical subject matter expert within delivery teams, ensuring user‑centred software is designed and developed in line with business requirements and engineering best practice.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional colleagues to explore, design, and deliver effective solutions to complex client challenges.
  • Design, implement, and manage software development and deployment pipelines, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues or bottlenecks.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with internal and external stakeholders, presenting prototypes, solutions, and delivery progress to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Build strong working relationships with team members and stakeholders, identifying risks and ensuring challenges are addressed.
  • Support the recruitment of engineers and contribute to the professional development and upskilling of consultants.
  • Contribute to the organisation’s external technical profile through blogs, workshops, seminars, or conference participation.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with Python frameworks and technologies such as Django, Flask, and FastAPI.
  • Proven experience delivering solutions using AWS, including serverless architectures.
  • End‑to‑end experience across the full software development lifecycle, delivering user‑centred digital services.
  • Containerisation experience using Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful API design.
  • Experience working within agile delivery environments using approaches such as Scrum, Kanban, and TDD.
  • Experience designing and building native and web applications across a range of platforms and scales.
  • Infrastructure as Code experience (e.g. Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM, or similar).
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, Azure DevOps, AWS CodeBuild, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences.
  • Experience delivering projects within government or healthcare environments is highly desirable.
