Our client is seeking a Head of Legal & Compliance to lead their UK-based legal, data protection, and compliance functions. This is a senior leadership role based in London, offered on a full-time, permanent basis with a hybrid working model (approximately 40% in-person, 60% remote). This is a strategic opportunity for an experienced legal professional to shape governance, manage risk, and provide high-level legal guidance across a complex, multi-stakeholder environment. The role involves close collaboration with senior leadership and trustees to ensure regulatory compliance and best practice. Salary: £71,481 per annum, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Legal, Data Protection, and Fundraising Compliance functions, including direct line management of specialist roles.
- Provide expert legal advice across the organisation, covering commercial contracts, service agreements, fundraising agreements, grant funding, intellectual property, and IT-related matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts and agreements with third parties.
- Act as the primary point of contact for legal queries, engaging external counsel where necessary.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks, particularly in relation to restricted funding and contractual obligations.
- Support governance frameworks and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, including executive leadership and trustees.
- Promote and embed commitments to equity, inclusion, and safeguarding across all areas of responsibility.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) with significant post-qualification experience.
- Strong background in commercial and contract law, with experience gained in both private practice and in-house environments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex legal matters within international or multi-stakeholder organisations (charity sector experience advantageous but not essential).
- Proven ability to identify legal risks and deliver pragmatic, commercially balanced solutions.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and ethical standards.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility across diverse teams and cultures.
