Overview
Our client, a UK-based digital consultancy, is seeking an experienced Senior Service Designer to join their service design practice. This role is suited to a senior consultant who takes a holistic, systems-level view of services and enjoys working at the intersection of user needs, organisational strategy, and Agile delivery. You will be a trusted expert to client stakeholders, leading the strategic planning and evolution of complex services. You may also take on delivery leadership responsibilities and contribute to the development of people, practice, and capability across the organisation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning and design of services to ensure alignment with both user needs and business objectives.
- Co-create new service propositions or evolve existing services across complex organisational environments.
- Articulate service goals and direction using artefacts such as service maps, service blueprints, and value propositions.
- Provide clear advice and recommendations on addressing organisational and service-related challenges.
- Facilitate workshops and collaborative sessions, acting as the voice of the user in multidisciplinary settings.
- Translate complex, cross-departmental processes into clear, visual, and actionable outputs for delivery teams.
- Manage dependencies across teams, departments, and delivery phases to support effective execution.
- Support delivery teams in working at pace across organisational, technical, and situational boundaries.
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with senior client stakeholders.
- Contribute to the Service Design Community of Practice, including knowledge sharing and mentoring.
- Line manage and support the development of colleagues where required.
Requirements
Service Design Expertise- Extensive experience designing services end-to-end and improving underperforming services.
- Strong ability to self-initiate work and shape service design direction in complex environments.
- Proven experience working closely with service or product owners and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to take a pragmatic, outcomes-focused approach to meeting client needs.
- Advanced experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Strong understanding of how multidisciplinary Agile teams contribute to service design and delivery.
- Experience supporting or leading delivery across complex, multi-team programmes.
- Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and explaining how user research and service design analysis inform decisions.
- Ability to build trust, credibility, and long-term strategic partnerships.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to respond constructively to challenge and ambiguity.
- Experience or expertise in one or more related disciplines, such as:
- Business analysis
- Business architecture
- Product management
- Public sector or Government Digital Service (GDS) experience is advantageous but not essential.
