Our client is seeking a Radiological Waste Specialist to support waste management operations at a major decommissioning site in Somerset. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in the design, delivery, and operation of multiple new waste processing facilities, including waste retrieval, conditioning, encapsulation, and storage plants. The successful candidate will provide technical input, compliance oversight, and authoritative advice to ensure waste is managed safely, efficiently, and in line with regulatory requirements. Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential, as this role requires coordination with engineers, scientists, contractors, and site waste teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support to the design and implementation of new waste facilities.
- Ensure waste generation and management are considered at all project stages.
- Develop and maintain Project Waste Management Plans.
- Coordinate project progression through the Waste Authority Review process.
- Brief and oversee contractors to ensure compliance with waste management requirements.
- Act as liaison for transferring wastes into the Site Waste Management process.
- Provide authoritative advice on compliance with waste legislation and transport of dangerous goods.
- Contribute to the production of Best Available Techniques documentation.
- Support controlled waste consignments from site.
- Drive continuous improvement in waste management strategies.

- Contract: Full-time (Monday β Thursday, 07:25 β 17:00)
Qualifications
- HNC or equivalent technical qualification (NQF Level 4) in a scientific, environmental, or engineering discipline.
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, practices, and stakeholders relating to radioactive and non-radioactive waste.
- Relevant experience within the nuclear industry, ideally in waste management.
- Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor Certificate.
- Experience developing waste inventories and managing associated records.
Additional Information
- Security clearance is required (or the ability to obtain it).
- Candidates must live within a commutable distance of the site.
