We are seeking an Ecologist to join our Environmental and Sustainability clients. The role involves a blend of remote and on-site work, with periodic office-based requirements. Role comes with a salary of up to £38,000, depending on experience, plus vehicle.

Responsibilities For Ecologist

  • Conduct site visits to survey and study animals, plants, and the environment, ensuring accurate ecological data collection.
  • Produce Preliminary Ecological Assessments and Ecological Impact Assessments.
  • Develop ecological reports, specifications, and detailed habitat and species records.
  • Carry out protected species surveys, including associated management and protection strategies.
  • Provide expert advice on environmental and ecological legislation.
  • Collaborate with the UAV Operations team to analyse aerial drone footage for ecological assessments.
  • Calculate biodiversity scoring using the DEFRA Biodiversity Metric.
  • Undertake primary and secondary Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) surveys, producing reports and site management specifications.
  • Act as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECOW) to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, contractual obligations, and Network Rail standards.
  • Liaise with clients, project managers, and stakeholders to develop and promote positive working relationships.

Requirements for Ecologist

  • Degree in Ecology or a related field.
  • CIEEM membership (minimum ACIEEM or working towards).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Strong report writing skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Protected species licence(s).
  • Ecological consultancy experience.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail Biodiversity Standards.
