Distinction Doors is the UK's leading composite door supplier offering bespoke, premium doors with an extensive colour palette to create wonderful entrances to people's homes. We have an opportunity for an Area Sales Manager to join our team, working on a full-time (37.5 hours) basis.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Area Sales Manager is accountable for driving sustainable growth by maximising opportunities within existing customer accounts and securing new business. The role is responsible for achieving sales and margin targets through proactive account management, customer engagement, and the development of long‐term, value‐led partnerships whilst also applying technical understanding to support customers with product knowledge, troubleshooting and solution‐based selling. This role will require you to operate in a field‐based capacity, spending time travelling to customer sites and attending our office in Tankersley as and when required. You will work closely with the Commercial Director, our internal Customer Services team and a small team of Area Sales Managers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver profitable sales growth across all product ranges to exceed agreed sales targets and objectives.
  • Identify, target, and convert new business opportunities through strategic prospecting and strong market awareness.
  • Maintain strong competitor awareness to build and refine a focused target list, ensuring proactive engagement with high‐value prospects.
  • Develop and implement account plans to increase share of wallet and strengthen customer retention and loyalty.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to identify additional opportunities for collaboration and value creation.
  • Conduct regular territory reviews to track performance and ensure consistent sales pipeline development.
  • Actively contribute to regional and national sales strategies through feedback, insight and market intelligence.

ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT

  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing customers through regular contact, effective communication and a deep understanding of their business needs.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring a high level of satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Negotiate commercial terms, pricing and contracts in line with company objectives.
  • Work closely with internal departments to ensure smooth order fulfilment, accurate forecasting and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor account performance, identify risks and implement corrective actions to protect and grow revenue.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT & PROBLEM SOLVING

  • Demonstrate strong product knowledge and the ability to explain technical features and benefits clearly to customers.
  • Provide hands‐on support to customers with product selection, installation guidance and troubleshooting.
  • Work collaboratively with the technical and production teams to resolve issues efficiently and maintain high service standards.
  • Use technical expertise to identify product improvements, customer training needs and service opportunities that enhance customer experience.
  • Support customers with accurate technical information, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.

VALUE CREATION & SERVICE IMPROVEMENT

  • Position the company as a trusted partner by demonstrating industry knowledge and delivering tailored solutions that add measurable value to customers.
  • Collaborate with technical, marketing and product teams to align customer requirements with business capabilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the customer experience through proactive problem‐solving and service enhancement.
  • Provide feedback to management on competitor activity, pricing trends and market developments.

COMMERCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

  • Manage pricing and margin to ensure sustainable profitability across all accounts.
  • Prepare accurate sales forecasts and performance reports, providing actionable insight for decision‐making.
  • Support the development of promotional campaigns, product launches and strategic sales initiatives.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in line with company policy and professional standards.

OTHER

  • Act to continuously improve ways of working, process, and best practice to enable the commercial team and business sales consistently improves and stays ahead of competitors.
  • Participate in internal and external training and awareness sessions as required by the business.
  • Uphold Distinction Doors' values of Integrity, Trust and Unity in all aspects of your work and conduct.
  • Represent Distinction Doors in a professional manner.
  • Undertake such tasks as may reasonably be expected proportionate with the scope and level of the role.

EDUCATION & KNOWLEDGE

  • Proven track record in sales growth, account management and new business acquisition.
  • Previous experience across trade/retail and commercial sectors.
  • Able to demonstrate a strong technical ability to understand products, diagnose issues and support customers with solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Commercially astute with an ability to identify and capitalise on market opportunities.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation and relationship building skills.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritise, problem solve and use initiative.
  • Ability to work in a fast‐paced environment and manage multiple priorities and the ability to deal with rapidly changing business conditions.
  • Proficient in using MS Office applications.
  • Self‐motivated, target driven with strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently day‐to‐day in a field‐based capacity whilst remaining a team‐player and being actively engaged with teamwork.
  • The ability to accept and provide feedback, be appropriately challenged and work well under pressure.
  • Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with market changes, trend and best practice within the sales sector.
  • Able to demonstrate work agility and be flexible to accommodate travel across your territory which may include occasional overnight stays.
  • GCSE in English, Maths, Science (Pass Level) or equivalent.
  • Experience with CRM systems, sales forecasting tools and structured sales reporting.
  • Previous experience in composite door sales and/or the fenestration industry.
  • Knowledge of building products, trade distribution channels or related manufacturing sectors.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in an Area Sales / Account Management role or equivalent.
