A growing specialist retail and ecommerce business is looking to appoint a Distribution Centre Operations Manager to lead its Swansea-based operation through a key period of operational improvement, growth and transformation. This is a hands-on leadership role managing a busy distribution, workshop and fulfilment environment.
You will take ownership of the day-to-day DC operation, supporting team leaders and supervisors while working closely with senior stakeholders on a wider transformation project designed to improve flow, efficiency, colleague engagement and future operational capability.
The Role
- Leading day-to-day distribution centre operations across warehouse, fulfilment and workshop areas.
- Managing, coaching and developing supervisors, team leaders and operational colleagues.
- Acting as the senior escalation point for operational issues across the site.
- Driving continuous improvement across process, space utilisation, productivity, quality and service.
- Supporting operational planning as the business continues to grow.
- Working closely with senior leadership on a wider transformation programme.
- Improving structure, accountability and leadership capability across the operation.
- Supporting colleague engagement, culture, inclusion and communication across the site.
- Ensuring the operation can deliver safely, efficiently and consistently during peak periods.
The Operation
The site includes a mix of warehouse, fulfilment and specialist workshop activity, including:
- A high-volume workshop operation.
- Warranty and aftersales activity.
- Storage and movement of large product volumes.
- Pick, pack and dispatch of parts, components and customer orders.
- Around 50+ operational colleagues across warehouse and distribution, plus additional workshop teams.
The environment is fast-moving, practical and hands-on. It would suit someone who enjoys getting close to the operation, improving what is already there and helping a business move from a more traditional setup into a more structured, scalable and future-ready model.
The Person
We are looking for someone with strong warehouse, distribution centre or fulfilment leadership experience. You will likely have:
- Experience managing a warehouse, DC, fulfilment or operational site.
- Strong people leadership skills, particularly with supervisors and team leaders.
- A track record of improving operational performance in a hands-on environment.
- Good understanding of pick, pack, storage, stock flow, productivity and service delivery.
- Continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to work with senior stakeholders while still being visible on the shop floor.
- Confidence managing change, engagement and operational improvement.
- A pragmatic, calm and structured approach.
- Experience in retail, ecommerce, consumer goods, parts, spares or similar environments would be useful, but is not essential.
Why Apply?
This is a great opportunity for an experienced operational leader to join a growing business at an important stage in its development. You will have the chance to take ownership of a live DC operation, support and develop the team, improve ways of working and play a meaningful role in a broader transformation project. For someone who enjoys operational leadership, people development and continuous improvement, this is a role with real scope to make an impact.
Package
Salary up to £65,000, 15% performance-related bonus, management share scheme, strong wider benefits package, Monday to Friday working pattern, permanent role based in Swansea.
