Distinct Recruitment are delighted to have been retained exclusively to recruit a Finance Director for a fast growing, entrepreneurial services group based in Loughborough. With turnover of c.£50m, a national footprint and an ambitious acquisition strategy, the business has reached an important stage in its development. Growth has been significant, further acquisitions are already progressing and there is considerable opportunity ahead. The next step is to develop the finance function for the next phase of growth.
Why join? This is a genuine opportunity to join a substantial business at a pivotal stage in its development. The group plans to continue growing both organically and through acquisition, with further transactions likely to form part of that journey. Over the coming years there could also be a significant corporate event, potentially involving external investment, an IPO or an eventual sale. The Finance Director will play a central role in making the business financially robust, scalable and ultimately investment and exit ready. You will join the business as a Board Director, with genuine influence over commercial strategy, acquisitions, investment decisions and the future direction of the group. There is also scope to help shape the future senior leadership reward structure, including potential bonus and LTIP arrangements.
The opportunity: You will take overall responsibility for finance across a growing multi entity group, leading an established finance team that already includes senior finance leadership and a wider team beneath them. This is not simply about running the numbers. The role has a strong commercial focus and will be central to improving visibility, decision making and performance across the business.
Key priorities:
- Commercial reporting, profitability and performance across business areas and profit centres
- Business partnering with operational and commercial leaders
- Forecasting, cash flow, strategic planning and investment decisions
- Group reporting, consolidation and stronger financial visibility
- Acquisitions, due diligence and integration
- Strengthening controls, governance and finance processes
- Developing the finance team as the group continues to grow
- Driving automation, AI and better use of technology across finance
A new bespoke technology platform is also being introduced, creating significant scope to improve data, automate processes and modernise the finance function.
About you: You must be a fully qualified accountant with experience operating at a senior level within a growing, commercially focused organisation. Sector background is less important than having worked in a complex, fast moving environment where you have had to build, improve and influence. Experience across a number of the following areas would be particularly relevant:
- Commercial finance and business partnering
- Acquisitions and integration
- Multi entity, group reporting and consolidation
- Building and developing finance functions
- Rapid growth and business transformation
- Investor, lender and external stakeholder relationships
- Systems, automation and process improvement
You will need to be commercially sharp, self driven and hands on, with the confidence to operate at Board level while still being comfortable getting into the detail when required. If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, apply now for a confidential conversation.
