My client situated in Leeds is looking for 2 Mechanical Design Engineers to add to their growing division.
Brief Overview:
- Salary £35-£45K (DOE)
- Working Hours: 36.5 hours per week
- Monday to Thursday: 07:30 – 16:00, Friday: 07:30 – 12:30
Reporting to the Head of Design, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be instrumental in creating advanced autoclave systems and related equipment for international clients. This role is perfect for a seasoned engineer seeking to advance their career. They are a highly respected supplier of high-integrity, pressure-retaining equipment, particularly for submarines.
Job Specification:
Design and Engineering
- Interpret customer requirements to produce innovative mechanical designs for autoclave systems and related equipment.
- Generate detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
- Ensure all designs comply with the Pressure Equipment Directive and relevant design standards.
- Produce calculations, specifications, and documentation to support certification and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with electrical, production, and assembly teams to support manufacturing and build processes.
Project Delivery and Process Compliance
- Contribute to project planning and management, ensuring that design outputs meet deadlines and cost targets.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical problem-solving activities.
- Provide technical support during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and customer presentations as required.
- Support the rollout and ongoing implementation of Two Second LEAN principles across the business, helping to drive efficiency and standardisation in design and manufacturing processes.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of two to five years’ experience in a mechanical design role.
- Strong competency in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office.
- Good understanding of project management principles.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design standards.
Desirable experience:
- Specialist experience with ASME pressure vessel codes.
- Familiarity with PD5500 or alternative design standards.
- Understanding of the Machinery Directive.
- Exposure to autoclave or pressure-related systems.
- Experience working within APQP frameworks and LEAN manufacturing environments (preferably Two Second LEAN).
- Working knowledge of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).
