The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of PLC-based control systems and electrical equipment across various industrial, manufacturing, and automation environments. This is a hands-on, mobile role requiring strong technical expertise in electrical systems, problem-solving skills, and customer-facing professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair PLC and electrical faults on-site and in workshop settings
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot PLC systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, etc.) and associated hardware
  • Service and maintain electrical panels, sensors, actuators, and wiring
  • Operate and maintain a mobile service unit, ensuring it’s fully stocked and presentable
  • Complete service documentation including job sheets, inspection reports, and customer orders
  • Communicate effectively with clients to explain issues, solutions, and preventive measures
  • Conduct system tests to ensure performance, safety, and compliance with electrical standards
  • Provide feedback to engineering teams for system improvements and upgrades

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Valid UK driving licence (essential for mobile service work)
  • Strong electrical and PLC programming aptitude with fault-finding ability
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Knowledge of PLC systems, electrical circuits, and industrial automation
  • Experience with variable speed drives, sensors, and control panels

Working Conditions / Benefits:

  • Salary: Starting up to £34,000/year (DOE) + overtime, with potential for increase post-probation could raise to £38,850/year + overtime
