I am seeking a highly skilled and innovative Design Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, analysing, and improving mechanical and system designs to meet project specifications and client requirements. Duties:
- Develop detailed design concepts and specifications using CAD software such as SolidWorks and CAD tools.
- Lead product design, specification and design maintenance activity.
- Project management of multiple small to medium projects.
- Develop a design from a spec to factory drawings, quality processes, etc. as necessary.
- Take responsibility for work packages within a project, organising own task priorities and resources to achieve targets.
- Conduct root cause analysis to identify issues within existing systems and propose effective solutions.
- Create and interpret schematics, system diagrams, and technical drawings to facilitate accurate manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Perform system design tasks that integrate mechanical components with electrical controls, ensuring seamless operation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that enhance product functionality and reliability.
- Support prototype development, testing, and validation activities in laboratory or field environments.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in system design, preferably within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Strong proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks, along with experience in schematics creation.
- Portfolio evidence of good quality design experience.
- Precision design experience, especially with carbon steel tubes, forgings, castings.
- Precision manufacturing process experience e.g. turning, machining, welding.
- Used to working to tolerance standards such as BS 8888, BS EN.
- Experience of design release and management in an ERP environment based on ISO9001 standards.
- Inquisitive mind with excellent attention to detail and a desire to get it right!
- Solid modelling experience with drawing creation.
- Hands-on person prepared to tackle any reasonable task in a small department.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis effectively to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Knowledge of system integration including electrical controls, mechanical components, and automation systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills coupled with strong organisational abilities.
Other Skills & Experience:
- Mechanical Engineering HND/degree or equivalent, preferably to MEng level.
- Professional experience portfolio suitable for Chartered Engineer submission in due course.
- Minimum 3-5 years mechanical design experience in a design role.
- Project planning and management experience.
- Computer literate especially analytical spreadsheets.
