We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee and manage the full payroll function for our organisation. This includes managing multiple monthly payrolls, statutory compliance, pension responsibilities, and supporting operational and finance teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, excellent analytical skills, and be proficient in managing payroll systems and processes end-to-end. This is a temporary-to-permanent role, with an initial temp period of a few weeks. You'll be required to work in the office in London 2 days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing & Management: Run and oversee 4 monthly payrolls ensuring accuracy and compliance. Process new starters, leavers, and contractual changes, including holiday calculations and issuing letters. Administer interim payments and correct any payroll discrepancies or missed payments. Manage and reconcile third-party deductions, including PHP, Attachment of Earnings, PCNs, and Cycle to Work schemes. Handle bonus calculations and payments in line with client agreements.
  • Statutory & Legal Compliance: Submit statutory returns and ensure compliance with UK payroll legislation. Administer statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP. Reconcile and pay PAYE across multiple companies. Submit and manage CIS deductions in line with HMRC requirements. Prepare and distribute P60s, P11Ds, and complete Year-End closure of all payroll databases. Manage PAYE Settlement Agreements (PSA) and respond to HMRC enquiries. Ensure compliance with Gender Pay Gap reporting and Living Wage calculations.
  • Pensions & Benefits: Oversee pension enrolment, re-enrolment, opt-outs, and reconciliation. Upload pension contributions to NEST and manage associated Direct Debits. Ensure correct deductions and processing of employee benefits.
  • Budgeting & Approvals: Approve budgets for new starters and changes to Terms & Conditions (T&Cs). Implement salary increases and issue salary review letters accordingly. Adjust pay in line with National Minimum Wage (NMW) and Living Wage (LW) updates.

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience as a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll Officer in the UK.
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with multi-payroll environments and different pay structures.
  • Proficiency in payroll and HR systems.
  • Strong reconciliation and journal entry skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
