We are looking for a Digital Human Artist who reflects the creative talent, photorealism, and collaborative mindset for great filmmaking and special projects that define ILM.

The Digital Human Artist is responsible for the creation and management of photorealistic human assets. They deliver high quality portraiture renders as well as asset hand off to other departments.

What You’ll Do

  • Generate photorealistic hero digital doubles, taking ownership of modeling, texturing, and look-development workflows.
  • Achieve accurate portraiture likenesses from any type of reference for conceptual approval.
  • Work seamlessly with scan data or sculpt assets by hand to produce high-quality results.
  • Explore and implement hybrid workflows, bridging VFX and real-time pipelines.
  • Collaborate closely with Show supervision and creature technical directors to ensure consistency and excellence in achieving a photorealistic finish.
  • Contribute to team development by sharing knowledge, supporting others, and helping refine workflows and best practices.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in digital doubles creation, which could come from VFX, games, or other relevant industries.
  • Strong modeling and texturing skills with an eye for presentation and lighting aesthetics.
  • Capable of managing static facial expression poses.
  • Familiarity with photogrammetry workflows and data processing.
  • Grooming experience is a significant plus.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy and proportion for human likeness.
  • Able to manage complex texture maps and multi-frequency displacement to achieve photorealistic surface detail.
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills, able to work across departments.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain high-quality standards under tight production timelines.
  • Open to exploring new technologies and approaches, while actively sharing knowledge and best practices with the team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Production experience with Mari preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of skin shading workflows.
  • Knowledge of real-time engines a plus.
  • Experience with zbrush, mudbox or equivalent software.
  • Working knowledge of Katana and Nuke.
  • Skill sets with xgen or houdini groom toolset a plus.
  • Background in real time digital humans a plus.
