About the Role & Team
Under the oversight of Senior Manager, Dry Docks, this role manages the approved dry dock scope of work for Disney Cruise Line's fleet's entertainment technical. You will spend around a third of your time planning and executing entertainment technical work during a vessel's refit period (dry dock). You will be responsible for writing the full, detailed scope of work on designated approved scope of work for Entertainment Technical work to be undertaken during the dry dock. Additionally, you will provide detailed specifications on the entertainment-related technical aspects of the interior work to be undertaken to sub-contracting companies for contract bidding quotations (ca. 20% of your time).
With your experience with technical entertainment equipment and setup, gained either on cruise ships or in large scale theatre productions, you understand that collaborating with various stakeholders, third party vendors and contractors is crucial to complete projects on time and in budget. This role is based in Disney Cruise Line's London Hammersmith office and requires approx. 3 months of global travel per year - incl. full presence during dry dock periods.
What You Will Do
- Plan and execute Entertainment Dry Dock work
- Responsible for writing the full, detailed scope of work on designated approved scope of work for entertainment technical work to be undertaken during the dry dock
- Provide detailed specifications on the technical aspects of the technical entertainment work to be undertaken to sub-contracting companies for contract bidding quotations
- Produce technical product specifications as required, consult with external bodies for compliance and best practice
- Provide full breakdown and evaluation of vendor bids quotations to the senior leadership team
- Conduct research into new ideas, products and upcoming regulatory changes to ensure all entertainment work are future proof
- Liaise with Operational teams, including Manager Entertainment Operations, Manager Entertainment Technical Operations, and DLE for Dry Dock entertainment work planning
- Partner with Shipyard, Walt Disney Imagineering, contracted vendors, and external regulatory bodies as required
- Manage additional consulting team members engaged for specific tasks/areas
- Responsible for effective communication to shipboard leadership on designated Dry Dock entertainment work to be undertaken during the vessels dry-docking period
- Liaise with ships leadership for feedback on project delivery and ongoing support requirements
- Liaise with Shipboard Senior Management for technical support including additional labour, approved scope coordination, and warranty support as required
- Negotiate most advantageous choice of Vendor for contract selection with Quality and Cost prime considerations, in collaboration with Purchasing and Logistics
- Manage labour and material finances to ensure technical entertainment dry dock work meet budget requirements
- Lead dry dock consultants on scope of work under area of responsibility
- Oversee and quality assure product delivery and provide consultant and vendor performance feedback/data
- Ensure Vendor Safety / Technical entertainment standard is compatible with Disney quality assurance and all Technical Safety implications are considered
- Oversee Vendors work through the whole of the process
- Provide monthly and, ad hoc as requested, reports on designated dry dock and project work
- Provide quality assurance through the design, installation and completion process
- Accompany sub-contractors onboard whilst undertaking work and ensure that sub-contractors provide all material safety certification, as fitted drawings and manufacturers manuals where appropriate
- SMS responsibility to uphold the general safety management responsibilities in areas under their control.
- Involved in dry dock 3rd party contractor/vendor selection process for areas of responsibility; indirectly influence and direct third-party contractors/vendors supporting dry dock
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Relevant tertiary technical entertainment or related degree or higher national diploma
- Cruise sector technical operations knowledge, Professional qualifications in relevant marine regulations; Drives continuous improvement
- Significant technical entertainment engineering experience, gained either on cruise ships or large-scale theatrical productions
- Significant project management experience in a corporate matrix environment
- Office Technical Entertainment Operations and Ship Management experience
- Previous significant financial responsibility (+$1m)
- Confident in managing third party contractors and vendors
- Ability to build effective professional relationships across different cultures
- Ability to quickly establish an internal & external network of marine professionals within a global environment
- Flexibility to work with ships in different locations and time zones, Flexibility to work with shore side teams residing in US and UK offices
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional training in marine regulations
- Previous Dry Dock experience required with emphasis on repair and replacement of entertainment equipment on modern large passenger vessels
- Ideally, sea-going technical entertainment engineering experience with cruise sector technical operations experience
