About Discovery
At Discovery, you will find purpose, belonging, and the support to thrive. Guided by our values, we create an inclusive, rewarding environment where your voice matters, your wellbeing is prioritised, and your growth is celebrated. As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will play a vital role in making every night safe, comfortable, and meaningful for the people we support.
About the role
Hello! My name is Barbara, but everyone who knows me well calls me Barbs. I live in my own cosy flat at Grove Court in Shepton Mallet, and I am looking for someone special to join my small, friendly team to support me during the night. I need support 24/7, and nights are an important time for me. My sleep can sometimes be a bit up and down depending on how I am feeling, so I need someone who is calm, patient, kind, and has a good sense of humour. If you can be warm and gentle, but also kindly firm when I need it, you might be just who I am looking for. Once you are settled and confident, you will be working with me on your own during the night. I will need your support to feel comfortable and safe, to help me with drinks if I am awake, and to support me with my personal care. After some training, you will also help by keeping my records up to date and letting my day staff know how I have been during your shift. My team say I am “cheeky and mischievous, and even though I do not use words to communicate, I always let you know what I want and what I like.” I think that sums me up pretty well!
About you
We are looking for someone who brings compassion, reliability, and a genuine desire to make a difference. You will thrive in this role if you:
- Care deeply about people and want to help create safe, positive nights for those who need support.
- Value inclusion and respect, treating everyone with dignity and kindness.
- Stay calm and reassuring, even when things feel challenging - your presence makes a difference.
- Enjoy working independently but also feel part of a team that shares the same purpose.
- Are comfortable using technology to keep accurate records and follow support plans.
- Can provide personal care when needed, always with empathy and understanding.
- Bring flexibility and reliability, knowing that your role is essential to someone’s wellbeing.
Rewards that make a difference
- A competitive pay rate with uplift for overtime you choose to work
- Flexible shift patterns to suit your needs
- 30 days paid Annual Leave (including public holidays - pro rata)
- Opportunities for career progression
- Supported 'Learn to Drive' scheme (up to 30 driving lessons, 1 theory/practical test - all paid for by us)
- We offer a salary advance scheme where you can access up to 50% of the money you have earned before payday.
- High Street Discounts - Retail and Entertainment (supermarkets, hospitality, pubs, cinema etc.)
- Life Assurance and Company Pension
