About Discovery
At Discovery, we’re proud to support people across Somerset and Cornwall to live the lives they choose. When you join us, you’re not just starting a new job — you’re becoming part of a friendly, dedicated team that puts people at the heart of everything we do. You’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you’re making a real difference every single day, and in return we’ll make sure your career can be the best it can be through excellent training, development opportunities and colleague benefits.
There’s no such thing as a “typical” Support Worker here. Our teams are made up of people from all backgrounds — from school leavers who want to start a meaningful career, to those looking for a change, to experienced support workers who want to work somewhere that genuinely values the people it supports. What connects every one of them is a shared motivation: the desire to help people live well, learn new things, and take steps towards greater independence. Our support workers don’t see what they do as “just another job” — they see it as a chance to brighten someone’s day, champion someone’s choices, and be part of moments that matter.
About the role
At Newholme, you’ll join a warm, close‑knit home in a friendly village where the people we support are at the heart of everything. You’ll be part of a passionate team supporting seven adults aged from their 30s to their 80s, each with their own personalities, routines and interests. The role is wonderfully varied: one moment you might be helping someone enjoy a pamper session or popping out for coffee and cake, and the next you could be supporting someone to swim, attend hydro, or joining in with sensory activities or accompanying Ryan on a visit home or to his favourite pub for a drink. You’ll provide compassionate, dignified personal care, and support several people who use wheelchairs and hoists. You’ll be trained to confidently support people with complex needs such as PMLD, autism, epilepsy and dysphagia, and two individuals with PEG feeds. You’ll also use digital systems for record‑keeping and training.
Shifts: Be prepared to work flexibly. (7am - 2:30pm, 2:30pm - 10pm, 8:30am - 3:30pm and 7am - 10pm, plus alternate weekends.)
About you
You don’t need previous experience to become a great Support Worker — what matters most is your attitude. We’re looking for people who are patient, positive, kind and genuinely motivated to help others live well. If you’re someone who listens, encourages independence, enjoys being part of an active team and isn’t afraid of getting stuck in, we’d love to hear from you. You’ll be someone who values dignity, choice and inclusion, and who brings calmness, resilience and creativity to your work — whether that’s helping with personal care, supporting communication, joining someone for a favourite activity, or enabling someone to feel safe and confident throughout your day.
Training, Development and Career Opportunities
Working for Discovery is rewarding, meaningful and offers genuine career progression. Within your first 12 weeks, we’ll fund and support you to complete the Care Certificate, which is essential for anyone working in health and social care. You’ll have access to a wide range of online and face‑to‑face training, including specialist courses tailored to the needs of the people you support.
