This temporary, fixed-term role (until 31 August 2028) supports pupils in Early Years and Year One at Discovery Primary Academy, helping them build resilience, positive relationships, and emotional well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted emotional literacy interventions (1:1 and small group) under the guidance of the SENCo.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation, self-esteem, anxiety, friendships, and behaviour related to emotional needs.
- Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Apply a range of therapeutic approaches including play-based activities, mindfulness, stories, and structured resources.
- Monitor and evaluate pupil progress, providing timely feedback to staff.
- Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
- Engage in ongoing training related to emotional literacy, mental health, and the Assistant SENCo role.
- Contribute to wider school life, including enrichment activities.
- Complete referrals to outside agencies.
- Liaise with parents and professionals involved with the school.
- Assist parents with tasks such as filling in DLA forms and SEN paperwork.
- Hold and record meetings concerning children’s learning and emotional needs.
- Record provisions and needs and support staff in doing this on Edukey (following training).
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified ELSA.
- Passionate about children’s emotional wellbeing.
- Experience working with children with additional needs.
- Calm, empathetic, and able to build strong relationships.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; experience working closely with parents.
- Efficient and thorough in completing paperwork and using IT.
- Committed to inclusion and safeguarding.
- Genuine interest in developing into an Assistant SENCo role, particularly within Early Years.

- Successful applicants will be required to complete an enhanced DBS disclosure.
