We are seeking a highly skilled Engineering Manager to take a hands-on leadership role in our Early Detection & Intervention business unit. You will lead two of the squads building our flagship product, Monitor, which helps keep children safe at school, at home, and everywhere in between.

In this role, you will lead two distinct engineering teams. The first team owns the customer-facing experience of Monitor, building the tools that empower safety leads to receive alerts, review incidents, and take action on safeguarding concerns. The second team is responsible for the client-side application that runs directly on children's devices.

Your Impact: What You'll Be Doing

  • Ensure Predictable, High-Quality Delivery: In collaboration with the Product team, you'll negotiate the balance between shipping new features, managing quality, and mitigating risk. Given the vital nature of our safeguarding tools, you will establish predictable delivery timelines without compromising on reliability.
  • Drive Technical and Architectural Strategy: Work in close partnership with Product Management to own the 'how' of building and scaling Monitor. You'll make key architectural decisions to evolve our systems, ensuring seamless integration between the children's devices and the safety lead dashboards.
  • Build and Mentor High-Performing Teams: Cultivate healthy, engaged, and highly effective engineering squads. You will act as a trusted leader across your two teams, developing talent and fostering a culture of technical excellence and ownership.

What You Will Bring

  • Proven experience as an Engineering Manager, leading teams in the design, delivery, and operation of complex, distributed systems.
  • A strong architectural mindset, with the ability to influence technical decisions by leveraging your product and business acumen.
  • Hands-on experience with modern cloud-native technologies; experience with GCP and Golang is highly advantageous.
  • A track record of mentoring and developing engineers, including fostering new leaders within your team and keeping high-performers engaged.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with Product and influence stakeholders across the organization.
  • An inquisitive, collaborative, and proactive nature, always looking for opportunities to improve teams, systems, and outcomes.
  • A forward-thinking approach to engineering, with the ability to champion and integrate AI-driven tooling into the team's daily development lifecycle.

How to prepare for a job interview at Discover Qoria

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Discover Qoria uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
