The Senior Director, Clinical Operations will provide strategic and operational leadership for the planning and execution of global oncology clinical trials, with primary accountability for UK and European clinical operations. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, compliant, and efficient trial delivery across multiple programs, working closely with CRO partners and internal cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the operational strategy and execution of global oncology clinical trials, including early- and late-stage studies
- Provide oversight of UK and EU trial activities from start-up through close-out
- Ensure delivery against timelines, budgets, and quality expectations while maintaining patient safety and data integrity
- Own end-to-end CRO and vendor oversight for assigned studies and regions
- Lead CRO selection, contracting, governance, and performance management
- Establish clear KPIs, escalation pathways, and risk mitigation strategies appropriate for an outsourced model
Oncology & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Biometrics, Pharmacovigilance, and Quality
- Contribute operational input to oncology protocol design, feasibility assessments, site selection, and enrollment strategies
- Support regulatory interactions and inspections (MHRA, EMA, FDA as applicable)
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or related discipline (advanced degree preferred)
- 12+ years of progressive experience in clinical operations within biotech and/or CRO environments
- Extensive oncology clinical trial experience, including global, multi-site studies
- Demonstrated success working in outsourced, CRO-led operating models
- Strong knowledge of UK, EU, and global clinical trial regulations and ICH-GCP
- Proven people leadership experience and ability to manage complex external partnerships
- Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills
