As a Fire & Flood Restoration Senior Technician, you will play a critical role in assessing and evaluating the damage to properties affected by fire, water, or other disasters. You will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections, documenting damage, estimating restoration costs, developing restoration plans, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Your expertise and attention to detail will contribute to the successful restoration of damaged properties and the satisfaction of our clients.
Responsibilities:
- Property Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments of properties affected by fire, water, mold, or other disasters to determine the extent of damage and the scope of restoration work required. This entails meeting and liaising with Policy Holders, Loss Adjusters, Loss Assessors and all other interested parties.
- Damage Documentation: Document damage observed during assessments, including taking photographs, measurements, and detailed notes to accurately capture the condition of the property. This entails taking moisture readings using various moisture meters, thermal imaging camera, drilling holes to take in-depth moisture readings, Salts testing, using borescope cameras etc. Also, installing and removal of drying equipment when required. Reports must be comprehensive, technically competent and stand any scrutiny.
- Cost Estimation: Estimate the cost of restoring damaged properties to their pre-loss condition, considering materials, equipment, labour, and other resources required for the restoration process. This entails sending reports with costs to our office or insurance companies direct.
- Restoration Planning: Collaborate with restoration technicians and other professionals such as Electricians and Plumbers, Wooden furniture restorers, rug restorers to develop detailed restoration plans tailored to the specific needs of each property, outlining the steps and procedures required to mitigate damage and restore the property. This entails appointing junior technicians to carry out strip out, cleaning, restoration, drying etc. Then, revisit after they complete or during works to monitor their performance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that restoration work complies with relevant regulations, IICRC, BDMA codes and guidelines including Pas64 and S500, and safety standards, staying informed about industry news and updates.
- Risk Assessment: Assess potential risks and hazards associated with the restoration process, develop strategies to mitigate these risks, and ensure the safety of restoration workers and occupants of the property.
- Client Communication: Communicate with property owners, insurance adjusters, and other stakeholders throughout the restoration process, providing updates on assessment findings, restoration plans, cost estimates, and timelines, and addressing any questions or concerns. Claim administrators can also help in answering any queries but they may need some technical knowledge where you become required.
- Quality Control: Monitor the progress of restoration work to ensure that it meets quality standards and specifications, conduct regular inspections of the work site, review completed tasks, and address any deficiencies or deviations from the restoration plan. This includes, revisiting sites to monitor drying performance, liaise with other technicians to instruct them to carry out any further works required.
- Project Management: Oversee the execution of restoration projects from start to finish, coordinate with subcontractors, schedule work activities, manage budgets, and ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
Requirements:
- At least 2 years experience in Fire & Flood Restoration as a Senior Technician - Surveyor.
- Certification or training in fire and flood restoration from BDMA or IICRC.
- Strong knowledge of building construction, materials, and systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to accurately assess and document damage.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong computer skills & Microsoft Office Word & Excel as a minimum.
