Located in Torquay and formed in 2005, we provide safe and affordable sailing for the disabled. We require a proactive, hands-on volunteer with financial experience to manage the charity accounts. (Option also to get involved with sailing if desired, not essential).
Responsibilities
- The Treasurer role is pivotal to the charity’s sustainability.
- Provide essential book-keeping, accurate financial records and responsibility for returns.
- Support in assisting us move into a new operational era, ensuring we can respond to the mounting marine and other regulatory pressures associated with working with vulnerable adults and children.
- Work closely with the fundraising team to ensure financial information is available when required and work together on budgets and planning.
- Advise the Training & Standards Group (TSG) and the Bosun’s Team to ensure boat maintenance costs are under control and that periodic regulatory inspections are successful.
- Assist in improving processes and cost savings, thus helping to strengthen our financial stability.
Qualifications
- Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as a trustee and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
- Governance experience is useful but not essential.
- Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively as a board member.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
- A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Enthusiasm for our vision and mission.
- Book-keeping experience and knowledge of charity finance is an advantage. Otherwise an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience.

- Hybrid.
- We have just completed an exciting fundraising project in 2025, enabling us to purchase a new £300,000 38ft yacht, which will give 10 years service to the charity.
- In 2026, the charity is undergoing a restructure with 4 members of the management committee (MC) retiring.
- As we are not in a major procurement phase, now is the ideal time to regroup, recruit and make strategic plans for the next 5 years.
- We pride ourselves on being friendly and relaxed and we encourage full participation and inclusivity by our abled and disabled volunteers and service users (Full Members).
- Our accounts are sound and we are looking for a Treasurer to assist with our exciting plans to restructure, strengthen and grow, whilst keeping pace with changing times and tightening regulations.
