Located in Torquay and formed in 2005, we provide safe and affordable sailing for the disabled. We are currently reviewing our Articles of Association and require a legal advisor to assist. (Option also to get involved with sailing if desired, not essential).

What difference will you make? We are looking for someone with legal & governance experience who can provide valuable assistance with our restructure and 5‑10 year strategy plan. This role can be temporary, advising us on updating our Articles, in line with Companies House and the Charity Commission (we are a company limited by guarantee). Ongoing it would be very useful for this person to also assist with general governance and policies and if desired, become a Trustee.

What are we looking for?

  • Willingness and ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as a trustee or consultant and to act in the best interests of the organisation.
  • At least 3 years experience of Companies House/Charity Commission legal compliance in terms of Articles of Association.
  • Experience in charity governance.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise good, independent judgement and work effectively with the board.
  • Effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion.
  • A strong personal commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Enthusiasm for our vision and mission.

Hybrid work model available.

What will you be doing? We have just completed an exciting fundraising project in 2025, enabling us to purchase a new Β£300,000 38ft yacht, which will give 10 years of service to the charity. In 2026, the charity is undergoing a restructure with 4 members of the management committee retiring. As we are not in a major procurement phase, now is the ideal time to regroup, recruit and make strategic plans for the next 5 years. We pride ourselves on being friendly and relaxed and we encourage full participation and inclusivity by our abled and disabled volunteers and service users (Full Members). As part of this review we are updating our Articles with a view to strengthening our management infrastructure and keeping in line with modern legislation. Ongoing there is also an opportunity to oversee our governance.
