About the role:
We are looking for an experienced carer for school holidays, weekends and occasionally after school. We need a kind, understanding and approachable person with extensive experience in a similar role, caring one to one for a child or young person with profound autism and/or learning disabilities. You will have an enhanced DBS check, your own transport and be happy caring for our son in our home most of the time. You must be willing to adapt to our son’s communication style which is predominantly based on hand gestures and eye contact. He is a happy smiley young man with Profound Autism, ADHD, he is non-verbal and is currently in pull ups. He enjoys engaging with trusted adults in mirroring games, tickles and snuggles.
Duties:
- Keeping him safe at home, eventually to take him for local walks, swimming or Pendragon Trust.
- Helping him make choices of snacks and drinks, assist him in safely enjoying his garden swings and equipment.
- Monitor his safety in the home and engage in one-on-one communication activities such as bubble play, choosing DVDs to watch, indoor trampoline and helping him with his vestibular and deep pressure sensory needs.
- Responsible for all his daily care needs during working hours, such as helping him get dressed, personal care, helping him eat safely and teaching him to make choices during his day.
Requirements:
- Own transport is essential due to the family’s home location.
- Enhanced DBS check needed.
- The PA will be used to working with children with a similar profile ideally in a similar role or within a special needs school or provision.
- Due to his neurodiversity, he has no sense of danger, the PA will need to be fit and able to react quickly during certain situations.
