We are currently recruiting for two experienced personal assistants for a lovely young boy with Non – Verbal Autism & ADHD. Leo is 8 years old and always requires full supervision. He currently resides with his mum and brother and attends a specialist school with support. Leo has no awareness of danger and will run at every opportunity. This role would suit individuals highly experienced in working with children with autism and ADHD. You must be able to demonstrate strategies and coping mechanisms for this role.
Leo enjoys a variety of sensory stimulating activities including spinning, swimming and trips to the local parks or SEND centres. He would like to visit and explore new venues with enclosed spaces to widen his experiences within the community. He uses a specialist wheelchair to access the community, which is fitted with a harness. Routine is very important to Leo as he can dysregulate if sudden changes occur, and due to his non-verbal autism, he cannot tell you directly what is wrong. Leo uses hand gestures and leading to show and tell you his needs. Leo can become dysregulated so coping strategies to manage these must be demonstrated and implemented to ensure his safety. Leo can self-harm if he becomes dysregulated and can lash out. He enjoys a trip to McDonalds and his favourite food is chicken nuggets. He also recently learnt to ride an adapted bike which he loves, so centres that have these facilities is always a great shout.
There are no dietary requirements, however, sugar-based food and drinks are prohibited due to the adverse effects sugar has on Leo’s behaviours.
The main tasks within this role will include supporting Leo in accessing the local community, accompanying and supporting him to engage in his chosen activities, and personal care is required for after toilet cleaning.
We require a car driver with a full clean UK Driving Licence and business insurance.
